TIBURON AND BELVEDERE, MARIN COUNTY — November 5, 2026. Voters are continuing to follow the election for three seats on the Reed Union School District governing board. In the Marin County election results available early November 4, Mike Ghaffary led with 1,953 candidate votes (29.5%), followed by Shelby Pasarell Tsai with 1,852 (28.0%) and Lina Godfrey with 1,410 (21.3%). These are the three highest totals listed in the source snapshot, not a certified final board.

Why three candidates can all lead

This is not a single-winner municipal election. Reed Union’s governing board race offers three seats, meaning the top three positions in the valid candidate count matter. Percentages in a multi-seat race refer to the total recorded selections among candidates, not the proportion of unique voters who chose each individual. To understand the risk to the last seat, readers need the number of votes for the candidate ranked fourth, not just the 101-vote difference between first- and second-place candidates.

Education governance differs from town government

Reed Union schools serve the southern Marin Peninsula, with a footprint overlapping residents of Tiburon, Belvedere and nearby unincorporated areas. The school district’s boundary and authority are not the same as either city’s council districts. Trustees work on school finances, facilities, policies and educational services rather than municipal zoning and fire-tax policy.

Other November races

Tiburon voters also faced a three-seat Town Council contest; Belvedere had its own council election. These involve different governing bodies, and any reported candidate totals from those races should not be added to the Reed Union school result.

What to watch after Election Day

Marin County continues processing qualifying mailed ballots, conditional registrations and provisional ballots while conducting its required canvass. A new ballot release can change candidate rankings even when polling-place precincts are reported. The county election office is the authority for official final results; KQED’s dated figures provide a comparison point for future updates.
